I was pleasantly surprised when I received technical specification for the development of polyphenylsulfone fittings from Ukrainian company Heat-PEX. The specification contained a lot of practical experience and all the subtleties were took in account. It evidences the diligence of approach.

PIPE FOR WATER SUPPLY SYSTEMS
AND RADIATOR HEATING OF PEX-A

Pipes from PEX-A are universal (as they can be used both for heating and for water supply) and are made of high density polyethylene, cross-linked with hydrogen peroxide. The reaction of the cross-linking happens in the extruder during the formation of the pipe. The cross-linking procedure allows to get uniform transverse connections on all the thickness of wall even if it is heavy wall tube.

The molecules of polyethylene are combined into three-dimensional structure. As a result of this process, improve such properties of the material as heat resistance, resistance to high pressure, impact strength at low temperatures and resistance to cracking at a voltage.

Oxygen barrier is made of ethylene-vinyl alcohol - polymer with the best protective characteristics. Requirements to the standards DBN V.2.5.- 67: 2013 in relation to oxygen barrier property are largely overfulfilled. In addition, the adhesive layer between the pipe and the barrier layer provides firm bond. The layer of ethylene-vinyl alcohol is insoluble in water and has significant reserve of density in relation to resistance to abrasion and resistance to atmospheric influences, which increases the resistance of the pipe in harsh conditions at the construction.

PE-RT / EVOH / PE-RT PIPE FOR UNDERFLOOR HEATING SYSTEMS

Now in Ukraine there are a lot of PE-RT pipes for underfloor heating but actually they are only called PE-RT pipes. In fact the pipes made of raw material which is called reworked PE-RT. And only small number of European brands presents a pipe made of primary pure PE-RT. That is why the company "Heat-PEX Ukraine" presents a new item - five-layer pipe PE-RT / EVOH / PE-RT produced in Spain.

Heat-PEX pipe for underfloor heating is made of primary thermoplastic polymer PE-RT type II, anti-diffusion layer with EVOH (red) and gray protective coating with red stripes.

Polyphenylsulfone (PPSU) is high-quality engineering plastics that retains excellent mechanical, electrical and thermal properties during extended periods of time of high temperatures and loads. Compared to PSU, this plastic is more shock-resistant, as well as hardened to chemical compounds and hydrolysis.

New Heat-PEX Evolution floor heating manifolds are made of plastic and are used in radiator and surface heating systems as well as surface-cooling systems.

The production of special heat-resistant plastic manifolds allows to avoid problems with heat loss during heating, as well as the emergence of condensate on the manifold due to small thermal conductivity of plastic.

The market has changed - clients of assembly organizations want big guarantees, and directly the assembly organizations want to be less dependent on the qualifications and integrity of their staff. PPSU fittings allow to speed up installation, including possibility of neglecting some operations (sound insulation, anticorrosion tape, etc.) which are necessary for the installation of brass fittings. This also allows to pay less attention to control of the work of installers.

Any new product appears to meet the changing needs. HEAT-PEX Evolution fittings can accelerate installation due to their design features, bypass some of the design constraints that occur when using other fittings, to avoid poor connectivity and recycling. Brass fittings can be used in the same way as before. But the world does not stand still. At one time, the metal pipes were replaced by metal-plastic, and then polyethylene pipes appeared. The same with fittings - they were brass, they are replaced by plastic gradually, emerging some functional advantages.

PPSU fittings do not require isolation from corrosive media, they are not subject to electrochemical corrosion. The smoother inner side is the more surface makes them less prone to the formation of lime deposits, which determines the extended term of their service. The coefficient of temperature expansion of plastic fittings is practically the same as that of pipes for which they are used, therefore the temperature variations do not violate the density of the pipe fitting. Plastic fittings withstand several freezing cycles of the system. The system can be installed in the ground. Also, these fittings have lower sound conductivity.

A significant advantage for installation organizations is characteristics of fittings. There are not so many installation requirements of PPSU fittings compared to brass fittings (including the inadmissibility of direct contact with concrete walls). This reduces the need to oversee implementation of the installation procedure by working personnel. Plastic fittings connection does not need to be covered with an insulating tape and, accordingly, it is not necessary to check the quality of this operation, which may differ critically depending on the qualifications and responsibility of the installers.

The issue of changing the product range is a matter of readiness of the construction market, which has always been conservative. It takes years for builders to take advantage of the new, albeit more advanced, technology instead of the old and proven. We believe that today the time of plastic fittings has come - their advantages in the current market realities are quite obvious to overcome the conservatism of the market.

Fittings are made in Europe at an manufacture certified according to all European standards. The manufacturer also produces fittings for the leader of the Spanish market and other high-tech products, including plastic components for the European automotive industry. We initially decided that we would place production only in Europe, although we hoped to find a partner capable of implementing our terms of reference closer - in Eastern Europe. However after we looked over all the variants we got to Spain. Obviously, if we were not concerned about the quality issue, we would find the manufacturer closer in order to reduce logistics costs and increase our margin.

In manufacture are used high quality molds made of austrian instrument steel. Firmness of the molds is ensured by geometry of the fittings. Even the millionth fitting is the same as the first, which is made of the same mold. In other manufacturers, after the release of 300 thousand fittings products may have significant deviations from the design geometry.

The difference in price is explained by lack of marketing costs. In addition, Spain is a country with less expensive labor force than Germany, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, France or Denmark. Average salary in Spain is only a few hundred dollars higher than in the PRC, though the level of living and motivation of workers are high, they are provided with one of the best social packages in Europe. Raw material for production is primary (not from recyclable materials) PPSU which comes from the world leader - Solvay S.A. (American chemical company, one of the largest in the world, whose European headquarters is located in Brussels). In other manufacturers, high (over 10%) percent of recycled raw materials can increase the fragility of products.

Your main advantage is the reduction of responsibility for what is difficult or impossible to control: the quality of installation, compliance with the operating conditions, the maintenance of the building in the period from the assembly of the system to the start of operation. HEAT-PEX has developed a number of product requirements as a result of many years of customer experience, including claims based on the design of other manufacturers' fittings. Among these requirements are the geometry of new-gen fittings that provides ease of installation, elongated fittings ensuring the coincidence (or given by the geometry of the fitting of the corner) while connecting the pipes, increased reliability of the fixation of the pipe on the pipe (landing place). The Heat-PEX Evolution fittings contain the best technical nuances available in the world of analogues, including original designs.

The geometric dimensions of the fittings, in particular, are the increased distance from the axis of the knee to the mounting flange, they provide the convenience of gripping the tool in any position (and not only from the opposite side of the knee). This helps to reach the convenience of installation, the ability to install in hard-to-reach places. As a result, the speed of the work is increased and the limitations are eliminated when designing the system.

The increased length of the pipe provides reliable fixation at a lower specific voltage due to the use of a larger length of the fixing sleeve (in other manufacturers the pipe is usually noticeably shorter than the sleeve).

No, the mold for the fitting can be common. These are guides that provide the exact alignment of the fitting between the sponge of the mounting tool. This eliminates the bias when clamping the fixing sleeve.

Some of the rings of branching fittings, usually next but one (for example, the second and fourth in case of 4 rings), have the form "Shark tooth" to increase the reliability of the connection.

Studies have shown that alternation of "Shark tooth" with a classic ring provides the best fixation.

Yes, they have, as it was in the classic version of the brass fitting.

In fact, plastic fittings also have the same firmness as brass one, that provides plenty of tightness of the system at calculating pressure. The coefficient of strength depends on the pressure in the system and temperature, but in any case it is reusable- from several times in the system of hot water supply up to 15 times on a cold system with a pressure of 3-4 ATM. But the main thing is not even this, but the fact that plastic products are not prone to the occurrence of manufacturing defects. A material that does not have a crystal lattice can not form in its structure "unsuccessful" formations that weaken the detail. You will never see a plastic bottle that can not withstand the pressure of a carbonated beverage. It's physically impossible.

The implementation of our technical specification was taken care by the leading engineer of the production plant, Jose Manuel. The natural color of polyphenylsulfone (PPSU) is black. Dyes are used to provide gray fittings. It costs more and can only be value for aesthetic reasons when designing systems that are not hidden by other elements of the building (for example, when constructing or reconstructing social housing, where new communications are carried out over walls). That is, in essence, it does not matter for the market.

It is the opposite. When HEAT-PEX Evolution fittings system was tested on over-extreme limit external loads and internal pressures, the whole area of the pipe always ruptures, and never does the connection or pipe in the joints. Thus, the connection location with the correct installation is the most reliable in the system.
